Te Ahu Pātiki
The Christchurch Foundation is proud to support the Rod Donald Banks Peninsula Trust who are purchasing the Te Ahu Pātiki land to bring it into public ownership in July 2021.
Please scroll down to donate to Te Ahu Pātiki project.
Te Ahu Pātiki is 500ha of iconic land including the summits of Mt Herbert/ Te Ahu Pātiki and Mt Bradley, the two highest points in the Christchurch/Ōtautahi district. Help bring it into public ownership to create a conservation park for native biodiversity with full public access.
With your support Te Ahu Pātiki will achieve:
- A highly visible landscape transforming to native forest,
- A biodiversity hotspot completing a 1700ha network of continuous protection,
- A protected catchment from summit to sea – ki uta ki tai,
- A stunning recreational asset for walking, biking and climbing, and,
- Secure public access on Te Ara Pātaka, the Ōtautahi/Christchurch to Akaroa tramping network
The land is to be protected in perpetuity with a conservation covenant and managed to facilitate natural regeneration of native forest. Income from the carbon sequestered in this forest will fund the management in time to come.
GREAT NEWS! The land purchase is now secure.
Please donate generously to help us raise a further $200,000. We have reached our initial target of $1,500,000 which is the amount needed to purchase the land. We will continue this fundriaising drive until 1 July to establish a conservation park where native forest can flourish once again and people are free to walk and explore.
We are currently fundraising for items including better fencing and more pest and weed control to protect the precious regenerating native forest. The Trust will will put your donation to good work with its partner organisations to realise the vision for the Park.
