The Our People, Our City Fund has received more than $3.8 million in cash and pledges.

Christchurch Foundation chief executive Amy Carter says she is overwhelmed by the extraordinary generosity shown.

"It's clear that Friday's horrific event has reached to the heart of our global community. The love streaming into Christchurch from all corners of the world is completely overwhelming," says Amy.

"Everyone wants to support the affected communities and families as much as they can. These contributions will be used to support them with both their immediate and long-term needs. Thank you so much."
