Wāhine Entrepreneurs Receive $45,000 Boost to Fuel Innovation in Ōtautahi

The Christchurch Foundation is thrilled to announce its latest distribution of $45,000 through the transformative Women Entrepreneurs Fund, empowering ten wāhine business leaders to shape our city's future. Three visionary entrepreneurs have each received $10,000 grants, while seven other innovative leaders have been awarded grants ranging from $1,000 to $5,000.

This milestone distribution marks another chapter in our partnership with Joy Shivas, whose vision established the Women Entrepreneurs Fund in 2022. This initiative aims to provide scholarships and grants to female entrepreneurs, empowering them to shape our future through their innovative ventures. Joy recognises the pivotal role of entrepreneurs in driving progress in our city and is dedicated to supporting more women to engage in this vital work. The initiative has now invested more than $145,000 in our community's female entrepreneurs, reflecting our commitment to breaking down barriers and fostering innovation in Ōtautahi Christchurch.

"The Women Entrepreneurs Fund provides a platform for female visionaries to thrive, overcome barriers, and realise their potential. We were delighted to receive so many applications of such a high standard this year and wish them all the best of luck on their journeys," Joy says.

In a powerful demonstration of the Fund's impact, previous recipient Vicki Ledergerber, founder of medical technology company Vortek, has contributed a special $2,500 award.

"I know as a former recipient how critical this grant was to supporting my entrepreneurial journey at a really challenging time. With a thriving medical technology business now, it is wonderful to be in a situation where I am able to give back and support other female entrepreneurs to go after their dreams, especially in the health technology space."

The stories of our three major grant recipients will be shared in early 2025 – watch this space!
