Michele started Christchurch Paeony to provide a natural pathway to social inclusion, especially for older Chinese women in Christchurch. As a member of the Horticultural society, she was asked to create a New interest club, and she long been encouraging them to be more socially inclusive. So she convinced them to create a club with the aims of including older Chinese women into the club and offering a bilingual community.
Other aims include:
- Encouraging people to get into their gardens and realise the uplifting and healthy benefits of gardening
- To delight the public with a dedicated and flamboyant flower show. They achieved this in 2021, despite covid, the show still went on and attracted 50% Chinese.
