One Mother to Another

Our Kate Sheppard Women’s Fund aims to support fabulous changemakers and Joy Reid is no exception. Her charity, One Mother to Another, received one of our awards late last year. Since then things have been moving at such pace and we wanted to let you know how your support has contributed to the flourishing of this beautiful initiative.

One Mother to Another is a grass roots charity which provides care packages to caregivers (particularly mothers) in hospital with their sick child. These bags of love are a gift of kindness and contain both practical and luxury items. Most importantly, they also receive a hand-written note of support to let them know someone is thinking of them through at a vulnerable and distressing time.

 “It definitely lifted my spirits and gave me the strength I needed to be there and strong for my daughter.” – Esther

Last year, they donated more than 3,300 care packages to carers, in part thanks to our grant. They also started working with fellow Women’s Fund grant recipient, Perinatal Wellbeing Christchurch.

 “It brought tears to my eyes. At a time where I thought things couldn’t get any worse, there was a little light at the end of the tunnel.” – Mum
